Masterminds written by Gordon Korman is a fantastic book for science fiction readers. Eli Frieden lives in Serenity, New Mexico, the most perfect town in the world. Everyone has a great house with a pool. Money problems and crime are unheard of. Honesty and integrity are valued above all else. The thirty kids who live there never lie. They know it’s a short leap from that to the awful problems of the other, less fortunate places. Some suspect something is “screwy” there but they can't put a pin to it. I liked the book from the cliffhangers to the spineticklers. The characters are kids just like us... or are they? I think Masterminds by Gordon Korman is a good book to read. Recommended by J. S.

(Before you read this review, just saying, this book is about feral cats.) Warriors: Into The Wild by Erin Hunter is a very good book / novel and I'd recommend whoever is reading this book review read Warriors: Into The Wild if they like adventure / mystery. It's the first book in the Warriors series. This book is about a domesticated cat named Rusty that has dreams that he should run away from his domesticated lifestyle and live in the forest. He decides he should go “into the wild” and say goodbye to his pet life. After he goes into the forest he meets some of the main protagonists of the first part of the series: Bluestar, Graypaw and Lionheart. They call themselves members (and leader) of thunderclan and they ask him to join their clan. Rusty accepts, setting up the rest of the series. Warriors: Into The Wild is a great book, and I recommend it to anyone who is reading this. I liked the fact that it shows that feral cats can have their own society. The 4 clans of the forest, Windclan, Riverclan, Shadowclan and Thunderclan, all have their own set of cats. The books include the cats having wars, laws and religion that stayed prevalent through hundreds of years that the cats have been around for. You should read this book this summer if you enjoy adventures and mysteries. Recommended by G. H. The book Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey is a good book if you like humorous fiction books. I liked this book because the main characters George and Harold are always getting into trouble and one time their trouble created a superhero that only wears underpants and a cape but they accidentally let him loose! Read Captain Underpants to find out whether George and Harold find Captain Underpants and keep him a secret or he goes out fighting crime and becomes a laughing stock. I would recommend this book if you like funny stuff. I think the main characters made the right decisions because if they did not make a superhero the world would be vulnerable to villains. The Main character is Mia Tang, an 11 year old girl who moved to America from China to work at a motel 3 years ago. At the end of the first book Front Desk, Mia and her family finally own the motel and not their mean boss!!! Also, Mia has to deal with the Calavista Hotel's worried investors. And California's election for Governor is coming up, and with the favored contestant trying to pass a law about Immigrants, everyone in Mia's life is in danger, especially her best friend Lupe. Three Keys is a great book because it tells kids that people are not always nice and caring and in life, There are twists and turns, and it teaches you that you should fight for what you believe in. and you can make a change in everyone’s life. For example, in the book Mia and her friend Lupe go to a protest to protest about Immigration laws and that they should stay in America. Everyone at the protest was making a change, and you can do it too. So in the end, it is a book that is supportive and makes you feel like you can change the world and make it a better place. It is about a girl named Petra who lives in a lighthouse that is on a cliff by the sea. Her family is German, and at the time the British were worried about German people being spies so her mother might end up being sent away. Her older sister Magda was acting very strangely and so was her father. She tries to figure out why and finds a few clues. All of a sudden, her family starts to fall apart, and Petra feels like she should become part of the cliff under her lighthouse’s legend. The legend of the Daughters Stone. I am recommending this book because, when I read it I never wanted to put it down, and I ended up learning a lot about World War II. I liked how there were cliff hangers because it makes you want to keep reading, Lots of nights my mom would tell me to go to bed because I would be reading super late! I also liked how you felt like you really knew the characters and cared about them and their decisions. That is why I am recommending this book to you. Recommended by S. G. Artemis Fowl is a good fantasy futuristic mythology mystery book for 3rd grade and up. It was written by Eoin Colfer, the author of Highfire, Halfmoon Investigations, and Benny and Omar. Artemis Fowl is a very intelligent boy who is interested in mythical creatures and technology. Artemis’s dad gets taken away by an unknown person. While Artemis is trying to get his dad back he unknowingly unleashes the lepRECON and one special fairy helps Artemis, I liked this book because the comedy is right up my alley, I liked the story, and how they leave you with a cliffhanger a lot. It is a story of bravery and perseverance. I love how they leave you with suspense. It made me want to read more. Recommended by N.C. Guts by Raina Telgemeier is an autobiographical graphic novel that you will love. Raina wakes up one night with a terribly upset stomach. Her mom has one too, so it is probably just a bug. Raina eventually returns to school where she is not having the best time dealing with things like friends, enemies, and classmates who thought the year was good then saw that it was not the best time. Her stomach isn’t getting better and she has a lot of worries about food, school, and friendships. What's going on? I love this book and recommend it because it is amazing. I read it in one day during a car ride. My mom said “we have to go to the pool!” but I said “no!” and just kept reading. This book is great. You will get sucked in. In case you didn't know, the seven summits are the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. Jordan Romero the author does a great job explaining things that are happening in the story. When I was reading this book I felt like I was right there in the story with all the characters. In this story Jordan’s dream is to climb the seven summits, even Mount Everest. Jordan’s family is surprised when he tells them he wants to climb all the seven summits, but they support him and help his dream come true. I think this is an important book because it tells kids that they should go for their dreams no matter how big they are. It shows to keep pushing until you reach your goal. If you have ever tried to reach a really really hard goal I bet you can relate to this book. "Find your Everest" - Jordan Romero Recommended by M.R. I am recommending The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. One of the reasons I love this book so much is that it has a mix of fantasy and then also a bit of realistic fiction. For those who are not normally fans of fantasy I am not either but I assure you that you will not be able to put this book down. It is a great story that I could relate to and there are some really great messages. Some of the characters are a girl named Luna, a witch named Xan, a dragon named Fyrian and a swamp monster named Glerk. They are mostly the main characters in the book for most of the middle part of the story but it goes back and forth. Another good thing about this story is there are cliffhangers. The first parts of the book can be a bit confusing but as you continue to read, it gets easier to understand so try to stick through the first part. Also as you get more into the book, it becomes obvious what happened in the first few chapters! This book is about a girl named Luna. She was born in a town that was filled with sorrow. Every year the youngest baby of the town is left in a grove as a tribute to the evil witch Xan, who lives in the dangerous woods with a swamp monster (Glerk) and a dragon (Fyrian). But Luna’s mom does not want to give up her baby and she goes mad because of her sorrow. She gets sent to the tower with the soldiers/scholars, who are called the Sisters of the Star and they lock her up. Will Luna be safe? Will she ever be reunited with her mother? Is Xan as evil as they think? This book has a message of love and how ignorance and fear of danger can make people believe anything. I recommend this book to all the fantasy lovers. It has out of this world creatures, magic, and a great storyline with adventure, bravery, love, friendship, and courage. I assure you that you will love this book! Recommended by S.P. The book The Inquisitor’s Tale is a fantastic book by Adam Gidwitz and is illuminated by Hatem Aly. This book is most definitely a must read for 3rd graders +. This historical fiction novel takes place in 1242 in France and is a compelling read about three children and a holy dog. Their names are: Jeanne, who is a determined girl who has visions of the future. Gwenforte, a holy greyhound who was killed and came back to life. William, a young African monk who has supernatural strength. And Jacob, a quiet Jewish boy who can heal any sort of wound. This story is told by butchers and brewers, knights and nobodies and peasants and priests at the Holy Cross-Roads Inn. Many people are at the inn hoping to see King Louis and “the three magical children and their holy dog”. While they are waiting, many different people share little parts of their story and all of those parts are the chapters, which add up to the storyline of the book. Join these 4 characters as they embark on a journey filled with magic and mystery through dangerous forests and crowded streets. One reason why I love this book is because it has a dog! This book is wonderfully written and skillfully crafted, which in my opinion makes for the most captivating, irresistible, entrancing, fascinating, thrilling book you’ve ever read. After you pick it up, you won’t be able to put this book down. Recommended by O.G. |
